GradeS 2-4

Sundays: 2:45 pm - 4:15 pm

at Scarborough Bluffs United Church from mid-September to mid-May

Prerequisites: No musical background is needed. Please book a vocal assessment. Vocal assessments take about 10 minutes and are done in a friendly teaching manner, allowing the child to find a head tone, to explore the full range and to allow the child to demonstrate their maturity and focus.

Performances: In-rehearsal “Skills Showcase” performances in November and April. Participation in December and May main stage concerts with all choir levels and special guest musicians.

Program description: Choir I participants enjoy an introduction to choral singing with top quality repertoire and a dedicated piano accompanist, skill-building singing games alongside expert instruction in solfege, note-identification, ear training and rhythmic skills. Our weekly program includes group singing time and hands-on music theory and sight-singing lessons. Participation in the A Young Singer’s Journey theory program is mandatory. On-site marking and tutoring is available each week. Choir I emphasizes singing in a beautiful head tone and memorizing numerous songs for performance. Additional musicianship instruction is available, by invitation, from 4:15 pm to 4:30 pm for singers demonstrating readiness for more advanced sight-singing training. Our team of expert musician instructors are passionate about helping young people sing with joy, confidence and ease. Subject to enrollment of 24 singers.

Conductors: Artistic Director Charissa Bagan and Assistant Conductor Magdelena Tang
